Wisconsin Skeeters Coming to SLICE!

The Wisconsin Skeeters are a sled hockey team made up of athletes with varying disabilities from all around the state.  The Skeeters will be coming to SLICE on December 14 at 3:30 pm. We invite all players from MYHA to participate in this event.  The Wisconsin Skeeters will be giving our players to have a chance to try the sleds and play a scrimmage.

The public is invited for the Wisconsin Skeeters at SLICE on December 14 at 3:30 pm! Come support these fine athletes!

Currently, there are 15-20 players ages 6-20 on the roster from the Madison area, Fox Valley, Milwaukee, Tomah and Wausau. Since they are the only team in the state, they often practice and play exhibition games against able-bodied teams. For the past 3 years, they have traveled to the National Disabled Hockey Festival and found it to be an amazing experience and we saw this as a chance to help the Skeeters look as good as they compete.

"Our roster of skaters currently includes about 15 kids who come from all over the state of Wisconsin. We're looking to grow the team to include enough kids to field 2 teams so we have more opportunities to play other sled teams. Each sled costs around $600. Since our skaters have physical disabilities, it's not feasible to share sleds during a game, so each skater must have their own sled. It's quite an investment, but after watching the freedom these kids experience on the ice...it's well worth it!"
