The Avalanche Squirt A team traveled to Sheboygan for the Squirt 3A State Tournament March 8-9, 2014. The Avalanche's first game on Saturday was against the Marshfield Blades. It was a tough battle between both teams, but the Avalanche came out of top with an 8-4 win. In the second game Saturday afternoon against Sheboygan Lakers (eventual champion), the Avalanche were defeated by the Lakers. The final game for the Avalanche was a big game as they were playing for the third place state trophy. The Avalanche dominated the entire game against Oshkosh Warbirds defeating them 10-2. Seven of the nine Avalanche skaters were on the scoreboard: Tessa Janecke, Lilah Bauer, Rob Schroeder, Jack Leverton, Hayden Roth, Alyssa Knauf, and Blaze Janecke.
Congratulations to the Squirt A team on your third place finish in the state tournament! The defensive line consisting of Alvin Buholzer, Tessa Janecke, and Alyssa Knauf did a fantastic job of keeping the puck out of the zone and setting up plays. The offensive line, Lilah Bauaer, Blaze Janecke, Jack Leverton, Anna Malone, Hayden Roth, and Rob Schroeder, made great plays and passes in the tournament. Goalie Aiden Runkle had great saves and was strong in the net.
On Saturday, March 1 MYHA hosted a Try Hockey event at SLICE where 25 boys and girls participated! Some of these young athletes took to the ice for the very first time and others were eager to expand their skating skills and learn more about playing hockey. We thank all who participated, the parents for giving hockey a try, and those who organized and worked the event including parents and coaches. Registration for the 2014-15 season will be in August with practices beginning in October.
