The Monroe Avalanche!

Message from the Board of Directors:
The Monroe Youth Hockey Association needs your help.  This year the Board of Directors has estimated it will take about 3,000 volunteer hours to run our association from August 1st, 2009 to August 1st 2010.  It is very important that every family makes an extra effort to fulfill all of their required hours and sign up for as many hours as possible.  If all 3,000 hours are not fulfilled we lose the opportunity to earn money in our concession stand, at open skates, at fundraising functions, and this all leads to helping keep our rink open.

The Board has estimated our annual expenses for 2009 - 2010 at approximately $180,000.  Our Expenses come from four major areas, Forty nine percent (49%) from Loans Payment, Property Taxes and Insurance, Eleven percent (11%) from Team League Fees and Referee Fees, Thirty percent (30%) from Utilities and Ten percent (10%) for the Rink and Zamboni operation.

Our estimated income is about the same, at $186,000.  Our income comes from many different areas, Two percent (2%) comes from Dry Floor sale in the off season, Three percent (3%) comes from Parties and Events Sales during the Season, Thirty percent (30%) comes from our Fundraising Activities, Thirty nine percent (39%) comes from Other Income (Sign Sales, Tournament entry fees, Concession Stand Sales, Men's Hockey, Learn to Skate, Pro Shop Rent, R/C Club Rent, Donations, etc) and Twenty six percent (26%) comes from our Players Fees.

So as you can see to keep Players Fees as low as possible we need help from every family in the Monroe Youth Hockey Association to volunteer their time and expertise to keep our association moving forward and making is possible for us to pay the bills.

Any ideas you may have on ways to increase our overall income or reduce our overall expenses can be forwarded to any of the board members via e-mail.

Parents

  1. Parents should provide their skater with properly fitted and maintained equipment.
  2. Parents should have their skater at practice and games ready to go at the time the coach designates.
  3. Parents are reminded that this is youth hockey and skater expectations should be commensurate with age and ability.
  4. Parents should meet their financial obligations in order not to jeopardize their skater’s ice time.
  5. Parents are an integral part of the team. Team effort exists not only on the ice but also in the stands.
  6. Parents are expected to display good sportsmanship at all times.
  7. Parents are urged to encourage and be positive in their support of the team. In particular, parents shall refrain from acting in any way, which would tend to embarrass or humiliate any skater, parent, family member or coach on the team.
  8. Coaches should coach. Parents should not yell instructions during the game or a practice.
  9. Parents are not to be on the ice at any time unless specifically requested by the coach.
  10. Parents should support the coach in every way possible.
  11. Parents are obligated to notify the coach or Team Rep of pending absences for games and practices.
  12. Parents should support the club by working at fundraisers, tournaments and all other club sponsored events.
  13. Parents should encourage participation in the club by recruiting members to help the club grow.
  14. Parents are reminded that they, as well as their skaters, are representatives of the club and that their attitudes and behaviors reflect not only themselves but on the club’s reputation as well. Failure on the part of a parent to act in a manner consistent with these guidelines, or in a manner detrimental to the interests of the club may subject the parent to formal disciplinary action by the Board.
  15. Parents are required to sign a Parents Code of Conduct each year at registration.
