Many were on hand for the annual Teacher and Grandparent Appreciation Day at SLICE on Saturday, January 26 as the Monroe U12 Girls team tied the Madison U12 Ice Spirit, 3-3.

With an obviously size advantage, the Ice Spirit opended up the scoring in the first period, only to be answered with an unassisted goal by Tessa Janecke, ending the period with the first of several ties throughout the game.

In the second period, the Ice Spirit again took the lead gaining only one goal, in part to great goal tending by emergency fill-in goalie Heath Bear.  The Avalanche were unable to answer despite the six shots on goal.

Third period play mirrored the second, with another Ice Spirit goal, leaving the Avalanche down , 3-1. Ten minutes would tick by until Janecke again drove to the net and scored. Stellar defense and net play continued until Alyssa and Haley Knauf got things moving and set up another Janecke shot for the game tying goal.  Bear would end his day with 17 saves while his teammates  put 17 shots on goal.
