The Monroe Youth Hockey Avalanche Pee Wee B team opened their season up with a game opener in Dubuque, IA versus the Mystique Jr. Saints Traveling Team. It was a hard fought battle for the Avalanche as the Saints were just too much taking the game with a 10-0 victory. The Saints opened up the scoring within minutes of the game by scoring two goals back to back within 15 seconds of each other. They then went on to score two more goals that period, making it 4-0 after the first period. Being down 4-0 after the first period and first-game jitters put to rest, the Avalanche continued to play hard. However, nothing seemed to be connecting for them that afternoon as after two periods of play they had no goals and no shots on net while the Saints connected on another four goals to make the score 8-0 after two periods of play. The third period was by far the best period for the Avalanche as they only gave up 2 goals but they themselves were finally able to put on the pressure on the offensive end and grabbed a few shots on net and almost connected on two of them. Although the Avalanche lost 10-0 Saturday afternoon to the Saints, Sunday's home game opener versus the Madison Polar Caps was a way different story. A whole new team stepped on the ice as they put together a team performance for their home game opener at SLICE Arena. Opening the scoring for the Avalanche was Colton O'Connor who was assisted by Ty O'Connor and Ryan Molitor within the first 2 minutes of the game. Polar Caps answered with a goal two minutes after that to make the game 1-1. The remainder of the period seemed to go back and forth with solid play by both teams. The second period continued where the first period left off and only one lone goal was scored and that was by our own Avalanche, Molitor half way through the period. Avalanche held on to the 2-1 lead going into the third. With the clearing of the ice occurring between the 2nd and 3rd period, some extra rest was given to each team but it was the Avalanche that came out of their team locker room all fired up as they hit the ice and dominated the third period. In the first minute of play of the third, Kaiden Klitzke was able to get a loose puck and head down the ice on a breakaway and launch an unassisted goal past the Polar Caps goalie for his first goal of the season. A few minutes later, the O'Connor brothers connected together with Ty getting the goal with an awesome pass across the ice from his older brother Colton, bringing the Avalanche up 4-1. Unfortunately, Avalanche let their guard down during the face off and within 14 seconds the Polar Caps scored to cut the lead to two. With 6 minutes left in the game, the Avalanche showed their determination, their stamina, and drive to come out on top by scoring two goals within 90 seconds of each other to seal the game 6-2. The two goals were scored by the O'Connor brothers again with Ty scoring the goal being assisted by Colton and the final goal of the game was scored by Colton O'Connor with a beautiful behind the net pass from Ryan Molitor.  Team play all around by the Avalanche on Sunday brought them to the top and bringing their season record to 1-1.
