Pee Wee B Dominate Reedsburg

At SLICE arena this past Saturday, the Pee Wee B team along with other youth Avalanche teams, took to the ice in front of Grandparents and Teachers during their annual Grandparent/Teacher Appreciation Day.

With a bitter taste still lingering from last weekend’s heartbreaking loss, the Avalanche dominated the ice right from the beginning by taking down Reedsburg 8-1 with goals by five different Avalanche players.

The first period started off with Ryan Molitor scoring off a pass from Kaiden Klitzke to put the Avalanche on the board three minutes into the game. The second Avalanche goal took a while to get but eventually Riley Jones was able to find the back of the net for an unassisted goal with two minutes to go in the 1st, leaving the score 2-0 Avalanche after one.

In the second period, the Avalanche began to separate themselves from Reedsburg by scoring three more goals, all unassisted, by Molitor, his second of the game, and two by Colton O’Connor. At the end of the second period, the Avalanche were called for a penalty.

With the score 5-0 at the start of the third and the Avalanche being short-handed, Reedsburg took advantage of the power play opportunity and scored their first and only goal of the game only 90 seconds into the third. But it didn’t take long for the Avalanche to rebound as they were able to continue where they left off and scored three more goals by Avalanche players, Rebekah Rath assisted by Jones, Ty O’Connor assisted by Kendall Wild, and rounding out the scoring on the day, Molitor connected on a goal assisted by Ty O’Connor, capturing his first hat trick of the season. Reedsburg was not able to do too much on the offensive end as the Avalanche Defense held their line well and when Reedsburg did have open shots, Avalanche Goaltender Heath Bear was there to make the saves. Bear racked up 20 saves on the game.

When Head Coach Josh Smith was asked how he felt this team played, he smiled and replied, “Everyone played very well. Our lines are starting to get comfortable with each other and we are starting to gel as a team. We’ve also been working heavily on positioning and we were able to implement that during the game. So, I am very happy with how they played, that and the win doesn’t hurt either.”

This win brings the Avalanche record to 2-2 on the season with a tough game coming up against the Madison Patriots on Sunday, November 24th at 8:45am at SLICE Arena.

The Avalanche would like to thank all of the Grandparents and Teachers that came out to support them this past weekend and all the parents that provided treats and hospitality. GO AVALANCHE!
