Late Surge Brings Down The Avalanche
The Monroe Pee Wee B team took to the ice this past weekend taking on two tough Non-League teams; The Southwest B team from Verona and the Dubuque Jr. Saints Travel team from Iowa. On January 4th, the Southwest B team traveled to SLICE arena and showed what they were made of with a late third period surge which gave them a win over the Avalanche 6-2. The score was 0-0 after the first period with some tough play between the two teams. However, in the second period Verona finally found the back of the net twice leaving the score only 2-0 after two periods of play. The Avalanche were still in it going into the third period. They kept playing tough and even though shots were hard to come by, eventually Colton O'Connor was able to put the puck past Verona's Goaltender, unassisted, to make the score 2-1 with 7 minutes to go in the game. Unfortunately for the Avalanche, the game unraveled after that goal as Verona scored 4 unanswered goals in the next 4 minutes to make the score 6-1 with less than 2 minutes to in the game. The Avalanche eventually scored one more goal by Avalanche player Ryan Molitor assisted by Kaiden Klitzke and O'Connor to make the final score 6-2. Avalanche Goaltender Heath Bear recorded 38 saves on the game.

Dubuque Just Too Much
The second game of the weekend for the Pee Wee B team was against the Dubuque Jr. Saints Travel team on January 5th. Dubuque controlled the game and puck from the start outshooting the Avalanche 51 to 13 and scoring 11 times on those shots. The Avalanche were not able to keep the puck down in the offensive end against the bigger Dubuque team and even though they took seven penalties during the game, the Avalanche only gave up one power play goal. The Avalanche eventually lost 11-0 and Goaltender Heath Bear recorded 40 saves on the day against a tough team. The Monroe Youth Hockey Pee Wee teams, both A & B travel to Menomonie, WI this coming weekend for a weekend tournament. Good Luck Pee Wee Teams!
