Pee Wee B Lose Three, But Gain So Much More

The Monroe Avalanche Pee Wee B team has been struggling to put a full game together for almost a month now so going into the Menomonie Tournament, their goal wasn't focused on winning or coming home with a trophy, but rather pulling together as a team, finding a way to get more shots on net, and having FUN playing the game they all love. The first game the Avalanche team took on was a very good Waunakee team. They played a solid half a game and were still in it until the middle of the second period when Waunakee ran away with it leaving the final score 7-0. Avalanche Goaltender Heath Bear recorded 25 saves that game. Game two later that evening was against a much larger Stoughton A team. This game was one of the best games the Avalanche has put together all season. Even though the score showed no goals, they played as team, did what they were suppose to, played hard all three periods, and gave the Stouhgton A team a run for their money. Goaltender Heath Bear put on a stellar performance in net saving 44 shots and giving up only four goals. Stoughton Coaches commented after the game to the Avalanche Coach Staff, "Your Goaltender did a fantastic job tonight! What a tough Goaltender." The final game of the weekend was against Hudson on Sunday afternoon. The Avalanche team picked up where they left off Saturday night and played very well against an evenly matched Hudson team. Score was 0-0 after the first period of play. However, early into the second period, Hudson scored first but the Avalanche quickly answered with a one-timer goal by Colton O'Connor who slapped in a beautiful centering pass from Ty O'Connor to tie it up 1-1. Penalties hurt the Avalanche as they gave up a power play goal late in the second period to give Hudson a 2-1 lead heading into the third. Hudson went on to score one more goal ending the game 3-1. Goaltender Heath Bear recorded 15 saves on the game. "All of us coaches are very proud of this team, their performance and their play throughout this past weekend. We definitely came out a better team from playing in this tournament and are looking forward to growing more as a team as we head into the final third of our season." commented Coach Josh Smith. Pee Wee B will take on McFarland this coming Saturday, January 18th at 3:15pm in McFarland and Verona at 8am in Verona on January 19th.
