The Monroe Avalanche Pee Wee B Hockey team traveled to McFarland and Verona this past weekend for a pair of non-league games. On Saturday, they traveled to McFarland and came out raring to go. The Avalanche took an early lead by putting the first two goals on the board with some aggressive play by everyone. The first goal was scored by Avalanche Riley Jones who received a centering pass from teammate Rebekah Rath from the corner. Goal two by the Avalanche came off a rebound that Colton O'Connor slapped in after a beautiful break away shot by Kaiden Klitzke. Klitzke was recorded with an assist on the goal. Unfortunately, with less than a minute to go in the first, McFarland finally put one by Avalanche Goaltender Heath Bear leaving the score 2-1 after the 1st period. In the second period, evenly matched play occurred as both teams scored two goals each. Avalanche player Ruger Hansen picked up his second goal of the season putting in a back hand off a rebound shot from O'Connor and Molitor and Avalanche's final goal of the game came from O'Connor who took it coast to coast and put the puck through the "5-hole" of McFarland's goaltender giving the Avalanche the lead heading into the third period 4-3. McFarland fought back hard and with less than 3 minutes to go in the game, Monroe was called for a penalty and McFarland took advantage of the five on four situation and were able to put in a power play goal to tie the game up leaving the final score 4-4. Avalanche Goaltender Bear recorded 40 saves in the game.

Pee Wee B Downed by Verona
Game two of the weekend occurred in Verona at the Eagle's Nest early Sunday morning. Monroe Avalanche seemed like a whole different team from the day before and were moving a tad slower. Goaltender Heath Bear definitely showed up as he kept the Avalanche in the game putting on a performance in net as he was able to stop 33 shots the entire game and only allowed Verona to score one goal each period. Unfortunately, the Avalanche were plagued by penalties again as two of the three Verona goals came off of power plays. Pee Wee B drop to 4-13-3 on the season.

Pee Wee B will take on Waunakee Wildcats C team on Saturday Jan. 25th at 12:50pm in Waunakee.
