During a league game this past Saturday at The Ice Pond in Waunakee against the Wildcats, the Monroe Avalanche Pee Wee B hockey team let their guard down in the 2nd period to give up a game that they easily could have won. With the shots on net and play being equal throughout the entire game, it was the 2nd period that caught the Avalanche off guard for a short 3 minute stint and had them playing from behind in the 3rd hoping to make some sort of come back. Unfortunately, the three goals that Waunakee were able to put on the board against Avalanche Goaltender Heath Bear would seal the deal. The Avalanche were only out shot by one but were not able to get any lucky breaks even as the puck laid in the crease many times. "If just one of those goals would have gone in, us coaches knew the momentum would have shifted. I guess it just wasn't our day to get the lucky bounces in front of the net." commented Assistant Coach Greta Rath. Goaltender Bear recorded 21 saves on the game. With that loss, the Pee Wee B team drop to 4-14-3 and will take care of business this coming week as they prepare for their Region 4 State Tournament Playdown (playoff) game vs. Reedsburg/WI Dells at Madison Ice Arena on February 1st at 12:00pm. The winner of this game will go on to represent Region 4 at the WAHA Pee Wee 3B State Tournament in Amery, WI on March 14-16th. Wish your Avalanche the Best of Luck this coming weekend. Go Avalanche!
