Pee Wee B Take Third (Tournament Recap)

Game 1 vs. Stoughton

Monroe Avalanche Pee Wee B team played the opening game of the Avalanche Classic yesterday evening against the Stoughton Vikings. The score remained scoreless after two periods of play but in the third period, it was Monroe Avalanche that dominated the puck. Avalanche finally connected on a goal half way through the period with a clearing pass from Avalanche player Rebekah Rath who found Ryan Molitor up the ice who then took it in and hit Bryce Montgomery in front of the net ...and put the puck top shelf! Molitor and Rath recorded assists on the play and the Avalanche were up 1-0 with half a period to go. It wasn't more than 90 seconds later that Avalanche Colton O'Connor picked up a loose puck in the defensive end and took it all the way and launched it past the Stoughton Goaltender to give Monroe a solid 2-0 lead with 7 minutes to go. The Avalanche did not let up and they continued to attack. Stoughton had a hard time getting the puck passed the Defensive line of Monroe; Kendall Wild, Brady Smith, Kaiden Klitkze and Alex Henry. "This was by far the best game our defense has played. They took their time, kept their heads up, and made some fantastic plays." commented Coach Josh Smith. Monroe won the game 2-0. Goaltender Heath Bear recorded his 3rd shut out of the season and had 14 saves on the game. The Monroe Pee Wee B team will take on Dubuque B at 5:00pm THIS EVENING in the Semi-Final game of the Avalanche Classic! Come on down to SLICE ARENA and show them your support! Great food, great raffle baskets and silent auction items to bid on, and great hockey to WATCH! GO AVALANCHE!

Game 2 vs. Dubuque B

Both of these teams have played each other already twice during the regular season so the Avalanche knew going into this game it was going to be tough. Unfortunately it was a 1st period breakdown that allowed Dubuque to coast the rest of the game as they scored 4 unaswered goals in the first period. The second period, the Avalanche fought back hard and only allowed 1 goal the whole period. It was finally in the third period that the Avalanche got on the board with a goal by Ryan Molitor assisted by teammate Colton O’Connor. Dubuque eventually scored one more goal ending the game 6-1, with 4 of those goals coming in the first period. Avalanche Goaltender Heath Bear recorded 35 saves on the game. Monroe will play for third place against Sun Prairie on Sunday, February 23 at 2:00pm.

Game 3 vs. Sun Prairie B ~ 3rd Place Game

The Avalanche Pee Wee B team took on Sun Prairie B in the Third Place game at SLICE arena Sunday afternoon. The game was pretty even the first 8 minutes of the first period and then the Avalanche turned it on scoring three goals over a five minute period. First goal came off a pass from the blue line from Defenseman Alex Henry who found Riley Jones. Jones put it on net and Colton O’Connor was there for the rebound and put the Avalanche on the board first. Then goal number two came from another awesome pass from Defenseman Kendall Wild who found O’Connor in front of the net who shot, and again a rebound put in from Ty O’Connor this time to put the Avalanche up 2-0. The last goal of the first period came from a huge shot from Riley Jones at the blue line and found the “five hole” of the Sun Prairie Goalie and the Avalanche ended the first period up 3-0. The second period, Sun Prairie came out firing but Avalanche Goaltender held the goal line allowing nothing by. The third period had solid back and forth play until Defenseman Kaiden Klitzke picked up a loose puck and during a line change by Sun Prairie, caught them off guard and Sun Prairie tripped Klitzke to avoid a shot on net. However, Klitzke was awarded a penalty shot instead of taking the penalty. Klitzke made it count and scored the goal giving the Monroe a 4-0 lead with 3 minutes to go in the game. The Avalanche would go on and score one more goal by Colton O’Connor who found the back of the net on a break away pass from Klitzke ending the game 5-0 and Goaltender Heath Bear earning his second shut out of the tournament. Bear recorded 24 saves in the game. Pee Wee B will take on Beloit B on Saturday at HOME at 10:30am and Janesville B in Janesville on Sunday at 11:20am this coming weekend.
