Avalanche PeeWee B Take Second at State

On Saturday, March 21 the Avalanche PeeWee B team traveled to Beaver Dam to open first round play at the 2015 WAHA 3B State Tournament against Beaver Dam. Monroe quickly established the upper hand with dominant puck control, and an unassisted goal from Luke Kuberski. Jared Dillon added a second first period goal off of a Kuberski face-off win. The second period would see another Dillon goal with the assist credited to Bryce Montgomery, and an unassisted effort from defenseman Kaiden Klitzke which capped the 4-0 Avalanche victory. Goaltender Aiden Runkle recorded 14 saves in what would be the tournament's only shutout.

Late night second round action found Monroe battling the River Falls Wildcats for the right to move on to Sunday's championship game. The opening shift set the tone for the entire night as Rob Schroeder scored in just 44 seconds from a Jared Dillon assist. The Avalanche would press on with a relentless intensity that the Wildcats could not answer. Team captain Luke Kuberski would find the net five times twice assisted by Blaze Janecke. Janecke would score one of his own from a Ruger Hansen assist while Dillon added another from a Kuberski assist. Goaltender Aiden Runkle recorded 21 saves as Monroe's unrelenting determination earned them an 8-1 victory, and a spot in the championship game.

With a state title on the line and a heavyweight opponent in the Sheboygan Lakers - a team that had not scored less than seven goals in either of their first two wins with a margin of victory never smaller than five goals - the Avalanche fought their way to a first strike as defenseman Broc Kuberski connected with his brother Luke up ice to spring a breakaway goal. The Lakers would not be put away so easily, though, as they would find the net five consecutive times. Monroe trailed 5-1 at the end of the second period, but renewed energy would see the Avalanche win the third period with Ruger Hansen assisting once as Luke Kuberski earned his second hat trick of the tournament. Late game heroics couldn't provide enough lift, though, as Monroe fell 6-3. Goaltender Aiden Runkle recorded 21 saves as the Avalanche ended their season with a remarkable state tournament effort, and a second place finish.
