The PeeWee A team played in the state play downs for the state tournament this weekend. On Saturday, the Avalanche defeated Reedsburg/WI Dells 5 – 2. Travis Edmunds scored the first Avalanche on a pass from Luke Kuberski. Reedsburg/WI Dells responded with a goal to tie the game a few minutes later. Tessa Janecke scored on a pass from Cade Janecke to end the first period 2 – 1. Edmunds scored an unassisted goal in the second period to make the score 3 – 1. In the third period, Cade Janecke scored a goal assisted by Kuberski and Tessa Janecke added the fifth goal with an assist by Joe Wyss. Reedsburg/WI Dells added one more goal to end the game. Goalie Jayden Johnson had 21 saves. By winning this game, the Avalanche would face Sauk Prairie with the winner going to the state tournament.
On Sunday, the Avalanche lost a hard fought game against Sauk Prairie 6-4. Sauk Prairie came out strong and scored 3 quick goals to open the first period. Cade Janecke scored a goal in the second period assisted by Wyss to make the score 3 – 1. However, Sauk Prairie responded with their fourth goal. Payton Stauffacher fired in a goal from the blue line on a pass from Broc Kuberski to make the score 4 – 2. Once again Sauk Prairie responded, this time adding 2 more goals. Anika Einbeck scored a goal assisted by Cade Janecke to end the second period 6 – 3. The Avalanche skated hard in the 3rd period but was only able to add one more goal which was scored by Tessa Janecke assisted by Payton Stauffacher. Goalie Jayden Johnson had 34 saves.
On Friday night, the PeeWee A team played Stoughton A at SLICE. The Avalanche won 9 - 4. The Avalanche took charge early and never looked back, scoring 7 goals before Stoughton scored their first goal. The Avalanche answered Stoughton’s goal to make it 8-1. Stoughton quickly scored the next three goals before the Avalanche finished the game with their 9th goal. Both Cade Janecke and Travis Edmunds earned Hat Tricks and Luke Kuberski earned a Playmaker (3 assists). Also scoring for the Avalanche was Joe Wyss with 2 goals and Tessa Janecke added one. Also earning assists was Brock Kuberski, Anika Einbeck, Edmunds, Cade Janecke and Tessa Janecke. The Avalanche played without their goalie due to an illness. Younger goalie, Aiden Runkle stepped and had 17 saves.
On Sunday, the Avalanche took on Waunkee A and lost a hard fought battle 7 – 2. Travis Edmunds scored the first goal of the game assisted by Cade Janecke and was ahead 1 – 0 at the end of the first period. Waunakee scored two goals in the second period to make the score 2 – 1. Waunkee scored first in the third period but Tessa Janecke responded with a goal assisted by Joe Wyss and Alyssa Knauf to make the score 3 to 2. That was a close as the Avalanche would get as Waunkee added 4 more goals to end the third period. Goalie, Jayden Johnson had 25 saves.
The Avalanche PeeWee A team took third place at a tournament in Menomonie, WI., by beating Menomonie 9-6. Travis Edmunds scored an unassisted goal in the first period to to open the game for the Avalanche. Luke Kuberski scored Monroe’s second goal on a pass from Tessa Janecke but Menomonie scored a goal seconds later. Then T Janecke scored a goal of her own on a pass from Joe Wyss. Edmunds scored another unassisted goal followed by another goal from T Janecke assisted by Anika Einbeck. Menomonie scored a goal at the end of the first period to make the score 5 – 2. Menomonie came out strong in the second period scoring 3 unanswered goals to tie the game 5 to 5. In the third period, Charlie Harris scored a goal for the Avalanche assisted by Cade Janecke and Edmunds. Menomonie responded with a goal to tie the game but 20 seconds later Wyss scored a goal assisted by T Janecke to make the score 7 to 6. The last 7 minutes was a real nail- bitter as both teams fought hard to control the puck. Edmunds was able to find T Janecke open in front of the net and she was able to fire a shot past the goalie to score with a 1:36 left in the game to put the Avalanche up by 2. Menomonie pulled their goalie to add an extra attacker to try to tie the game. The Avalanche met the challenge as C Janecke was able to knocked the puck away and pass it to Edmunds who shot it the length of the ice into the Menomonie empty net. Goalie Jayden Johnson had 41 saves for the Avalanche. Both T Janecke and Edmunds earned hat tricks during the game.
The Avalanche lost their first game to Rice Lake 7 - 1. Edmunds scored the only goal for the Avalanche assisted by T Janecke. Johnson had 24 saves in the net. The Avalanche lost their second game to River Falls 11 – 3. Scoring for the Avalanche was C Janecke, T Janecke and Kuberski. Earning assists was Einbeck and Harris. Johnson had 32 saves.
