By Joy Roth 01/08/2018, 12:30pm CST

The Avalanche Pee Wee B team spent the weekend at the Waupaca Pee Wee Faceoff Tournament.  The tournament consisted of 8 teams in varying association size, most larger than Monroe.  The first of three games was bright and early Saturday morning - 7:20 am puck drop.  With great passing and teamwork ,they came away with the 6-4 win over the Blaze from Milwaukee.  Payton Hathaway earned a tournament hat trick patch, with three goals.  Adding goals were Easton Dreyfus (2) and Carson Kurschner.  Assists were earned by Haden Barker, Ethan Rosenstiel, DJ Rath, Hathaway and Gavin Roth.  In goal, Kyle Theorin had 10 saves.
After a long break and an hour tournament delay, the Pee Wees were back on the ice at 10:15 pm Saturday night.  Hathaway started the scoring in the first period, unassisted and the Oshkosh team answered shortly after.  Roth went bar down with a goal in the second, assisted by Christian Carpenter.  In the third period, Hathaway sealed the deal to give the team the 3-1 win.  Xander Obert did a great job in the net, with 26 saves!
Heading to Sunday's Championship game, the Avalanche were fired up.  Facing off against a very physical DePere team, the Avalanche were unable to get enough past their quick goalie. Scoring in the game were Rosenstiel, from Hathaway and Hathaway, unassisted.  The Avalanche out shot the DePere team 37-20.  Kyle Theorin was in net with those 20 saves.  Final score was 2-3.  All in all a good weekend for the Pee Wee team, bringing home the 2nd place hardware and medals.

In an early morning match against Stoughton, the mighty Pee Wee B Avalanche offense was about as warm as the outside temperature.  The Avalanche got off to a slow start and goalie Xander Obert allowed 4 goals in the opening period.  The Avalanche never gave up, scoring 3 goals in the 2nd period themselves, two by Ethan Rosenstiel on assists from Jayden Downs and Gavin Roth, and Easton Dreyfus scored in the 2nd period as well on an assist from Rosenstiel.  Payton Hathaway scored just after the 2nd period buzzer went off, and it was ruled a "no goal".  Rosenstiel would score again in the third, completing his hat trick, on assists from Dreyfus and Hathaway.  Carson Kurschner added a late goal on a pass from Hathaway, but the Avalanche would come up short this morning, being edged out 7-5.  The Avalanche were out shot 21-43 in the game.  Obert had 36 saves in the loss.  Next up is a trip back up to frigid Dodgeville and an early morning start on New Years Eve, with the puck dropping at 9:15 AM.  Go Avalanche!

Offense was the key factor in Saturday's victory over South Central.  The Mighty Pee Wee B Avalanche launched 60 shots on goal today, which is a season high for the team.  Having hat tricks were Gavin Roth and Ethan Rosenstiel.  Contributing two goals each were Carson Kurschner, Haden Barker and Payton Hathaway.  Kyle Theorin and Jaryn Fonseca rounded out the scoring with one goal each.  Roth also had two assists in the game, as did Easton Dreyfus. Fonseca and Barker had one assist each to go along with their goals as well.  The Avalanche kept the puck out of their own zone for most of the game, and goalie Xander Obert had 10 saves in his second shut out of the season for the 14-0 victory at home.  Next up is a morning match at Dodgeville at 10:45 AM.  Dress Warm and Go Avalanche!

The Mighty Pee Wee B Avalanche went into today's match at Dodgeville without a couple of players, so they brought up Squirt Brody Koehn to help out for the day.  Dodgeville got on the board first, but Jayden Downs tied it up to end the 1st period.  Downs would have a hat trick on the day, scoring one in each period.  Payton Hathaway and Carson Kurschner would also score in the 2nd period.  Barker and Koehn would fill out the scoring, as the Avalanche defeat Dodgeville 7-4.  Assists went to Hathaway (2), Downs, and Xander Obert.  Goalie Kyle Theorin had 17 saves in the victory.  The next scheduled match is against Stoughton at home on December 30th at 8:15 AM.
